New Zealand 2019 – PROLOGUE

The initial plan to travel to New Zealand wasn’t set until a few days before Thanksgiving (3 weeks before the actual trip itself) where I broke the news to my family during lunch on 29NOV2019 (my older sister’s birthday). As I stood there telling everyone I was heading to New Zealand, I could see so many different reactions on everyone’s faces. The few people who already knew who had helped me find the trip and finalize the travel details sat with expressionless faces knowing that this was my surprise to tell. Though, I had no sooner broke the news of my upcoming travel to New Zealand than I was met with the response “no, you’re not”, to which I replied “you want to see the receipts”!

Everyone looked so awestruck by my news that I knew this trip would be story for the ages: a new chapter out of the book of Garbo. With so much to left to say and not enough time to do so before everyone went their separate ways, I explained that everyone would hear all about my travels upon my return. On my way home the following day, a new circumstance had reared its head: being involved in a multi-car pile-up on the Mass Pike. This situation, however devastating, gave me a glimpse at a new perspective on my life. From this point on, I realized I needed to start living my life for me and not following the set path that is expected to be pursued.

As much a I thoroughly enjoy brightening up other people’s lives through much selflessness and large-scale surprises, this trip was not going to be about anyone other than me. I was not about to let the near-death experience get in my way of having the happiness I deserve. The unfortunate crash had only strengthened my resolve and determination to live the life I want: My Life! This would be MY STORY!!!
